Founded in 1996, Essential Ingredients has consistently grown to become a national distributor of raw materials used to manufacture personal care, household and industrial products. Over the years, Essential Ingredients has rejected several offers from competitors and private equity firms who wanted to purchase the company. There were multiple factors that contributed to the decision to turn down these offers, but ultimately it came down to the people. In 2011, Essential Ingredients formed an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) and became 100% employee owned. Since the formation of the ESOP, employee owners have exponentially driven the price of company shares year after year. In 2017, Forbes Magazine recognized the company as one of its Small Giants: America’s Best Small Companies.
